Privacy

This site is operated by Ryan Davis, LLC. It collects personal information in two ways: through the form for proposing a correction, and in the server’s record of each visit.

What the form collects#

Your name, your email address, the section you chose, your proposal, and the IP address you sent it from.

What it is used for#

To read your proposal and to reply to you about it. Your name and email address are never published, including when a correction you proposed is accepted.

Who else handles it#

  • OOPSpam, an anti-spam service, receives your proposal, your email address and your IP address when you send the form, and scores the submission for spam. The site also limits how many proposals one IP address or one email address can send in a short time.
  • Amazon Simple Email Service carries the email that tells the author a proposal has arrived. That email contains everything you entered in the form.
  • WebOps Hosting hosts the site. When the form’s hidden spam trap stops a submission, the host receives a daily summary with the name, the email address and the first part of the proposal, so that a real person stopped by mistake can be found.

How long it is kept#

  • The spam filter keeps its own record of each submission on this site for about a month, then deletes it.
  • Submissions saved by the form, including any marked as spam, are kept until they are deleted. Nothing deletes them automatically.
  • The site keeps a log of the emails it sends, and the notification email itself stays in the author’s mailbox.

Visits#

The web server records the IP address of each request in its logs. Visits are counted by analytics software running on this site’s own server. It sets no cookie and does not store IP addresses. It records the approximate city and country of a visit and the kind of device and browser, and sends nothing to anyone else.

Your information#

To ask what is held about you, or to have it deleted, send a proposal through the form with the section set to General and say so.
